The 4 A's of Autism as a Guide for Promoting Success for Autistic, ADHD, and Otherwise Neurodivergent Individuals Through the Lifespan
Please join us to explore this crucial topic with Dr. Stephen Shore from Adelphi University.
A lifespan autobiographical structure employs presenter experiences in making fulfilling and productive lives for autistic, ADHD, and otherwise neurodivergent individuals the rule rather than the exception. By examining how deficits and challenges can be reframed as strengths, this presentation offers practical solutions to parents and other significant caretakers for harnessing these characteristics as potential springboards to success in education, employment, self-advocacy, and meaningful engagement in the community for leading fulfilling and productive lives.
This webinar will conclude with a discussion with Dr. Susan Chinitz on supporting neurodivergent and non neurodivergent parents on promoting success for their children.
Participants of this webinar will be able to:
- Explain and illustrate how the context of awareness and acceptance can be framed as a pathway towards appreciation where autistic, ADHD and otherwise neurodivergent people of all ages are valued for who they are.
- Identify at least two examples where parents and other significant caretakers can reframe a perceived weakness as a strength for leading fulfilling and productive lives.
- Reframe their thinking of autism, ADHD and other neurodivergencies in terms of deficit, disorder, and disability to an abilities-based model by asking what the individual*can*do.
This webinar is for all of those working in the perinatal period as well as children birth to 5 and their families.
