Reframing the Narrative: Black Maternal Mental Health and Supports for Wellness
Join us to discuss this essential subject with Dr. Amittia Parker, Ph.D., M.S.W., M.P.A. of the Center for Child and Human Development at Georgetown University.
To reframe the narrative on Black maternal mental health, we must center the voices and experiences of Black mothers, their strengths, supports, and solutions. This session will enable participants to think about what they have learned about promoting mental health and wellness and the extent to which what we know, do, and are planning to do is serving Black mothers, specifically. A research poem will be shared to tell a story of some Black mothers’ experiences with their mental health and different supports across contexts. This experience will inspire critical self-reflection and action to enhance existing supports.
Participants of this webinar will be able to:
- Participate in individual reflection and group dialogue about what they know, how they are, and what they do related to supporting Black maternal mental health
- Identify one culturally responsive support or solution proposed by Black mothers in the poem shared to better support their mental health
- Reflect on and write one goal related to how to support Black mothers and their mental health
This webinar is for all of those working in the perinatal period as well as children birth to 5 and their families.
This webinar offers 1.5 Continuing Education contact hours for the following license types: LCSWs, LMSWs, LMHCs, LMFTs, and LPs.
