Partners in Fourth Trimester Care: Supporting Maternal Mental Health through Trauma-Informed Perinatal Support
Please join us to explore this important topic with Dr. Isha Metzger, PhD, LCP, Associate Professor of Clinical-Community Psychology at Georgia State University.
This training will provide a foundation for effectively supporting maternal mental health through trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices, empowering participants to make a positive impact in perinatal care for Black Mothers. Recognizing that many mothers experience unique mental health challenges postpartum, we will explore strategies for addressing interpersonal and racial trauma, promoting resilience, and enhancing cultural sensitivity. Participants will learn evidence-based techniques to provide compassionate, supportive care tailored to mothers’ diverse needs, with special attention to those from marginalized backgrounds who may face additional stressors and disparities. This session is part of an initiative to create supportive, healing-centered perinatal environments that empower mothers in their postpartum journeys.
Participants of this webinar will be able to:
- Identify the Impact of Trauma on Maternal Mental Health: Describe common trauma responses and mental health challenges mothers may experience in the postpartum period, particularly for those from marginalized communities.
- Implement Trauma-Informed Perinatal Support Practices: Apply 3 or more trauma-informed strategies to support maternal mental health during the fourth trimester, incorporating techniques to foster emotional safety, trust, and resilience.
- Enhance Cultural Sensitivity in Perinatal Care: Recognize the role of cultural factors in maternal mental health and apply culturally responsive practices to support mothers from diverse backgrounds, addressing racial and socioeconomic disparities in postpartum care.
This webinar is for all of those working in the perinatal period as well as children birth to 5 and their families.
