Infant Mental Health and the Pyramid Model Part 2: From Alignment to Action

Please join us to explore this important topic with Gerard Costa, Ph.D., DIR-C, IMHM-C, Kate Sweeney, MSW, LCSW-C, and Kaitlin Mulcahy, Ph.D., LPC, IMH-E®

This webinar is the second of a 2-part series rooted in the text, “Uniting Infant Mental Health and the Pyramid Model.”

The Pyramid Model and Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) are two aligned frameworks for professional development and consultation. They both share a foundation in promotion, prevention, and intervention strategies, supporting the social-emotional development of infants and young children by strengthening the capacities of the adults who care for them. Building on the foundational concepts explored in Part One, this workshop will explore how these complementary frameworks can be aligned to ‘swing between and enhance impact across early childhood settings in policy and practice application. We will begin with a review of a model of professional “formation” that addresses three interrelated ways of development: knowing, doing and being-with. Practical strategies for applying both approaches in working at the classroom, program, coaching, and systems levels will be illustrated. Through examples, reflection, and discussion, we will explore strategies for creating responsive environments, strengthening relationships, supporting the workforce, and promoting equitable outcomes for children and families. Participants will leave with practical ideas for advancing an integrated approach within their own settings and systems.

Participants of this webinar will be able to:

  • Identify the model of Professional Formation and how it applies to the integration of the two frameworks of the Pyramid Model and IECMHC.
  • Examine the role of reflective practice, coaching, and leadership in supporting integrated implementation of IECMHC and the Pyramid Model.
  • Explore examples of how programs and systems can ‘swing between’ to align policies, professional development, and family partnerships to support children's social-emotional development.
  • Develop action steps for advancing integrated IECMHC and Pyramid Model implementation within their own role, program, or community.

This webinar is for all of those working in the perinatal period as well as children birth to 5 and their families
