Webinar

An Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Young Children: Part III (ASD-3)

This offering is Part III of a three-part series. We encourage participants to view Part I and Part II.

Join us for Part 3 of our Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorder webinar series (ASD-3)! ASD-3 is an opportunity to expand and deepen material examined in the two previous ASD webinars, with a richer concentration on intervention. Participants will be offered a framework through which interventions can be linked to different underlying models of human development. Two intervention systems will be examined -Naturalistic ABA and Developmental/Relational Therapies from their philosophical underpinnings, operational characteristics and research base.  An example of Developmental-Individual difference-Relationship based (DIR) intervention will be illustrated. The impact of rearing a child with ASD on the family, both challenges and rewards, will be discussed and the loss-grief model will be explored with implications for supporting  families.  Fifteen propositions will be presented to summarize current understandings of ASD and neurodiversity.  Further, ASD-3 will open the forum to questions previously posed as well as impromptu comments, queries and discussion.

Participants of this webinar will be able to:

  • Compare and contrast 2 models of intervention for ASD-Naturalistic ABA and Developmental Therapies
  • Describe current understandings in the field of ASD and neurodiversity.
  • Describe the challenges and rewards of rearing a child with ASD
  • Discuss supportive family strategies consistent with the Loss-Grief Model

This webinar is for all of those working in the perinatal period as well as children birth to 5 and their families
