Early Childhood Witnesses of Intimate Partner Violence; Impact and Repair
Working with young children that have witnessed intimate partner violence and their survivor caregivers can engender a broad range of intense reactions in the clinicians who treat them. At the same time, clinicians strive to advocate, maintain hope, and help families heal. In order to do this challenging work as effectively as possible, it is important that clinicians keep themselves grounded in theory, research, and clinical knowledge as well as intentional self-care.
In this webinar, we will examine definitions of IPV, the risks and impact of IPV on young children and the caregiver-child relationship, intervention with non-abusing caregiver-child dyads, and intervention as well as issues of child visitation with caregivers who have engaged in abusive partner behavior.
