TTAC Webinar: Introduction to Attachment: Concepts and Research
The goal of this webinar was to help infant mental health practitioners understand essential attachment concepts and research so that they can observe it in the children and parents they work with; understand its importance and use in attachment-based clinical intervention programs; and be knowledgeable consumers of research and other publications. Major topics covered included Bowlby’s attachment theory, normative development of attachment, Ainsworth’s approach to identifying secure and insecure attachment, the links between security, maternal sensitivity and social-emotional development; the definition of Main & Solomon’s clinically relevant disorganized category, and the role of attachment and caregiving representations in the development and intergenerational transmission of security. The application of this information to a range of ordinary and major separations was considered. The webinar incorporated power point, video, and still photographs.
